What is a website?

Website:

A website (also spelled Web site) is a collection of related web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are addressed relative to a common Uniform Resource Locator (URL), often consisting of only the domain name, or the IP address, and the root path ('/') in an Internet Protocol.

Types of websites:

Commercial website:

The purpose of this type of website is to sell products or services. Commercial websites are used for promoting a business or service and are among the most common type of website on the internet.

Organizational website:

The purpose of this type of website is to advocate an individual’s opinion or a group’s point of view. A website where persons with similar interests communicate with each other, usually by chat or message boards.

Educational website:

The purpose of this type of website is to provide information about an educational establishment or to present information in an educational manner.

Personal website:

The purpose of this type of website is to provide information about an individual or group.

News website:

The purpose of this type of website is to provide information about current events, dedicated to dispensing news and commentary.
